We are excited to step behind the vision of Emmanuelle Simon’s interior details. Emmanuelle, the French-Israeli interior architect and designer shares her passion for artisanal detail and minimalistic design. Having graduated in interior architecture and design from the École Camondo in 2012, Emmanuelle continued to devote herself to these two disciplines by starting her career off with Pierre Yovanovitch. She has traveled globally, working on prestigious projects and building experience in designing both public projects and private homes.

After creating her own agency in 2017, she won the Public’s Prize at the Design Parade in Toulon with her La Chambre sur l’eau (Bedroom on the water) project, and presented the Rakù-Yaki cabinet-bar at Révélations at the Grand Palais. She is currently expanding the range with a collection of exceptional furniture and lighting. At the beginning of the year, she designed the first Paris base of the French-Japanese brand Evidens de Beauté, while also working on several private apartments in Paris and Val d’Isère. Emmanuelle applies a global vision to her projects, from the architecture to individual objects.

We have worked with her in one of recent projects, the Saint-Germain apartment which we are very excited to share with you all, as well as a few different projects she has worked on, aside from her personal collection of furniture and hardware.

Paris is romanticised throughout the world; can you share with us a little bit about daily Parisian life?

Paris is a magical city! Each neighbourhood or district is like a small village where we can explore the terraces. Despite the hustle and bustle of this big city, certain places continue to hold intimacy, such as small nooks where you are received with French-style hospitality and service where you have the feeling of living a personalised experience.

How did your passion for interiors evolve and where do you draw inspiration from?

I have been passionate about interiors from a young age, and each project nourishes me more and more and at the same time shows me the importance of interiors in moments of life and how essential it is to feel good at home.

The spaces you design have been described as immersive experiences. Can you tell us a little bit about your process to create spaces that feel so wholistic and at the same time personal?

In fact, when I understand a place, every detail is important to create a unique experience. From the object to the architectural volume, the texture of the materials contributes to the emotion felt.

Your spaces show a deep respect for natural materials and bespoke, handmade pieces. What do you find so appealing about these elements?

Indeed, I love natural materials and handcrafted pieces because you can see the handmade quality, and the irregularity of each piece which makes it unique.

Which of your interior design project are you most proud of? Why?

The Evidens de Beauté house, is a spa for a French-Japanese brand, in which we have succeeded, thanks to the architecture, in creating a transition towards intimacy and serenity.

We love how you’ve integrated Pampa products in the Saint-Germain apartment, can you tell us what drew you to work with us?

I love your products because they balance form and relief, as well as the subtly of materials and natural earth colours.

We first came across your work after seeing images of the incredible SPA LA MAISON EVIDENS DE BEAUTÉ. The Franco-Japanese design works seamlessly and seems fundamentally Emmanuelle Simon, is this project something that you feel already lived within you?

Yes, Japanese culture has always attracted me with its strong sense of balance, the attention for details, and the simplicity of materials. Wabi-sabi praises the beauty of the passing time and the work of man.

Can you tell us more about your product range? Is this an area you see yourself moving more into? We love the unique designs.

Since the creation of the agency we have had this double activity of interior architecture and design. We have created our collection of exceptional furniture and lighting with an emphasis around material and artisanal craftsmanship.

What are you working on next?

Various public projects and private residences, including a Hotel in Los Angeles, apartments in Paris, concept of shops and an artisan bakery. At the same time, I continue to develop my design collection.

Paris est romancée à travers le monde, pouvez-vous partager avec nous un peu de votre routine parisienne ?

Paris est une ville magique, chaque quartier est comme un petit village où l’on peut apprivoiser les terrasses. Malgré l’agitation et le bruit de cette grande ville, certains lieux gardent un côté intime, comme des petits écrins avec un accueil et un service à la française, ou l’on a le sentiment de vivre une expérience personnalisée.

La France a toujours été en première ligne/à l’avant garde de la decoration d’intérieur. En ce moment, qu’est ce qui, pour vous, définit l’univers du design/création en France?

L’artisanat, le savoir-faire et la liberté de création et d’expérimentation.

Comment votre passion pour les intérieurs évolue-t-elle et d’où tirez-vous votre inspiration?

Je suis passionnée par les intérieurs depuis mon plus jeune âge, et chaque voyage me nourrit un peu plus et à la fois me montre l’importance des intérieurs dans les moments de vie et à quel point il est essentiel de se sentir bien chez soi.

Les espaces que vous créez ont été décris comme des experiences immersives. Pouvez-vous nous en dire un peu plus sur le processus de creation de ces espaces à la fois holistiques et en même temps si personnels?

En effet lorsque j’appréhende un lieu chaque détail à son importance pour créer une expérience unique. De l’objet au volume architectural, la texture des matières participe à l’émotion ressentie.

Vos espaces démontrent un profond respect pour les matériaux naturels, les pièces artisanales ou sur mesure. Qu’est ce que vous pousse à favoriser cette démarche, ces éléments?

En effet, j’aime les matériaux naturels et les pièces artisanales car elle témoignent du travail de la main de l’homme, et l’irrégularité de chaque pièce la rend unique.

De quel projet de décoration d’intérieur êtes vous la plus fière et pourquoi?

La maison Evidens de Beauté qui est un spa pour une marque franco japonaise, dans lequel nous avons réussi, grace a l’archirtecture, à crée une transition vers l’intimité et la sérinité .

Nous aimons la manière dont vous avez intégré des produits Pampa dans l’appartement Saint-Germain. Pouvez-vous nous dire ce qui vous a amené à travailler avec nous?

J’adore dans vos produits le jeu de reliefs et de formes, la subtilité des matieres et des coulueurs terres naturelles.

Nous nous sommes penchés sur votre travail après avoir vu des images de l’incroyable Spa Maison Evidens de beauté. Les influences franco-japonaises que l’on retrouve dans vos projets semblent faire partie intégrante de votre style, est-ce quelque chose qui fait partie de vous depuis toujours?

Oui la culture japonaise m’a toujours attiré avec son sens poussé de l’equilibre, l’exigence du détails, et la sobriété des matieres. Le Wabi-sabi fait eloge à la beauté du temps qui passe et au travail de l’homme.

Pouvez-vous nous en dire plus sur votre gamme de produits ? Est-ce une partie de votre activité sur laquelle à l’avenir vous souhaitez insister? Nous aimons les créations uniques. Dites nous-en plus sur votre esthétique et vos produits.

Depuis la création de l’agence nous avons cette double activité d’architecture d’interieur et de design. Nous avons crée notre collection de mobiliers et de luminaires d’exceptions avec un travil autour de la matiere et du savoir-faire artisanal.

Quelles sont vos projets à venir?

Différents projets publics et résidences privées, dont un Hôtel à Los Angeles, des appartements à Paris, concept de boutiques et une Boulangerie artisanale. En parallèle, je continue à développer ma collection de design.
