How would you describe your style, and what influences your design choices?
I’d say my style is casual & eclectic, I love creating spaces that feel resolved, but not overly precious. I enjoy the push and pull of contrasting elements in a room, as it keeps things interesting and dynamic. Colour is also a huge inspiration for me; I truly believe it has the power to influence how we feel in a space, maybe more than anything else.
When it comes to design, I always look to my client’s personality and passions for guidance. I’m constantly observing little details and moments that might help shape the design direction or the story we’re telling through the space. I’m also deeply inspired by nature and the environment around me. Living in the Byron Shire, there’s this earthy, playful energy that naturally filters into my designs,
Could you tell us more about this recent project? What inspired you to incorporate Pampa pieces?
We’re in the process of revitalizing a 90’s brick home, tackling the project in stages, starting with the master suite, walk-in robe and ensuite. The house had a lot of faux heritage details that felt outdated and out of place, so we knew we needed to strip it back to reveal its potential & reflect its lovely new owners
We began by removing the vinyl flooring and replacing it with timber, which immediately brought a sense of warmth and connection to the space. We also limewashed the walls to add texture and light, and designed several custom timber furniture pieces to work with the architecture of the space.
Pampa rugs were a natural fit for the rooms. They bring such a beautiful, organic warmth and a sense of luxury without being overdone. I’ve long been a fan of the brand, so it was wonderful to incorporate their pieces into this project. The rugs are not only visually lovely but also feel incredible underfoot, adding beauty and comfort to the rooms.
This space features handmade, ethically sourced elements like Pampa’s rugs and homewares. What resonates with you about Pampa’s approach?
Pampa’s status as a B Corp really speaks to its dedication to ethical practices, which is something I truly admire. It’s so rewarding to work with a local brand that not only supports artisans but also takes care to tread lightly on the environment. They create heirloom-quality pieces designed to last, and that’s something I absolutely love about their work.
Rugs can transform a room entirely. How would you describe the impact they have on a space?
Rugs set the tone of a space. They bring warmth, texture, and a sense of cosiness, which are essential for creating an inviting atmosphere. Rugs have the ability to ground a room, making the space feel balanced and cohesive. They do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to defining proportions and scale—whether it’s softening the edges of a large room or tying together different design elements. A great rug doesn’t just add style; it anchors the room & makes it feel complete.
