Known for her signature laid-back style, Kim Amos brings warmth, texture, and soul into every space she touches. From the considered details at The Atlantic in Byron Bay to the layered calm of her own home, Kim’s approach is grounded in natural materials, thoughtful design, and pieces that tell a story.
We’ve had the pleasure of working with Kim for many years at her beautiful hotel, The Atlantic, and deeply respect her work and style. The home we’re featuring here, The Surf House, perfectly embodies her aesthetic — with rustic timber cladding and limestone flooring creating a harmonious and grounded space.
Throughout the house, Kim proudly displays inspirational artworks by her son Hunter Amos, along with sculptures from her other son, Noa Amos, and creative friends. Here, art and heart come together seamlessly. Discover how Kim uses Pampa rugs and homewares to create spaces that feel both elevated and deeply lived in.
We’re grateful to have captured this property earlier this year before the Amos family sold their house.

You’ve described The Surf House as the home you’re most proud of — what made this project feel so creatively significant for you?
The Surf House was the first home I designed from the ground up, and that alone made it feel creatively significant. It was also so much more than just another design project, it was a chance to express everything I’d learned over the years. A large part of the design concept was to create a space to exhibit our son’s artworks. Paintings, sculptures and handmade objects gave this home a very personal touch.
What guided your design decisions throughout the build — were there particular textures, tones or references you kept returning to?
A lot of the references for this particular house were family homes in Corsica and Uruguay, very earthy and grounded. I wanted to harmoniously blend stone, timber and tiles. It had to be robust and coastal. Somewhere we could roll in from the surf with wet, sandy feet and dry off in the sun.
Can you walk us through your favourite room in the house? What makes it special, and which objects or pieces mean the most to you there?
It has to be the bathroom with the rendered stone tub and heated sandstone floors. The ceiling’s are lined with latte sticks, a detail that instantly gives the room a holiday vibe and I made the hanging light by rendering an old pot and threading vintage fishing floats. My longboard is always resting in the shower area reminding me to get in the ocean everyday.
There’s a real sense of ease and flow in the interiors. What are your go-to principles when it comes to styling a space that feels both lived-in and elevated?
For me it’s about creating a space that can evolve. I’m always moving things around, switching artworks, shifting furniture, adding an object from a trip. Things that hold stories and only get better with time. Above all, i think a home should feel easy. It should invite you in, let you kick off your shoes and feel relaxed in an effortless way.
You styled Pampa rugs so seamlessly into the home — what do you consider when choosing rugs for a space, and how do they help tie everything together?
My Pampa rugs are like my grounding anchors- they’re one of the first things I consider when I’m styling a space because they set the tone. There’s a deep sense of connection to nature and that’s super important to me. They bring the outside in- the blues of the sky, the greens of the rainforest, the ochres of the earth and that resonates with the way we like to live.
