Mi Casa | Pip Vassett

Pip Vassett, founder of the beloved lifestyle brand IN BED, has spent the better part of a decade shaping a thoughtful dialogue around the rituals of home. Known for championing slow living and intentional design, her own space mirrors the same quiet beauty and integrity that defines her brand. In this conversation, Pip shares the stories behind the pieces she holds dear, from vintage finds to handmade treasures, offering a glimpse into a home that is as soulful as it is lived-in. Whether it’s morning coffee in the courtyard or evenings by the fire, her approach to home is rooted in softness, meaning, and an enduring appreciation for the handmade.

Can you tell us what your favourite item in your home is, and why it holds meaning for you?

Our small but growing collection of artworks and ceramics—particularly those gifted to me by Eddie or Walter—are what I treasure most. They each carry a memory or moment, and over time they’ve become markers of different chapters in our lives. I love how these pieces quietly evolve with us, finding new places in each home we live in.

Are you someone who gravitates toward handmade objects? What do they bring to your space or your life?

Absolutely. Most of what we own has been made by hand—either by small makers or brands we admire. I’m drawn to the imperfections and the sense of story these pieces carry. They bring warmth and meaning —qualities that help a space feel truly lived in.

Are there any objects or pieces that have followed you from house to house?

Our vintage Danish sideboard has come with us everywhere. We bought it years ago, and it’s become this beautiful anchor in our home. It holds a rotating collection of things we love—ceramics, old record players, lamps, photos. Somehow it always manages to suit the space, wherever we are.

What’s a small ritual or moment in your day that helps you feel grounded at home?

A morning coffee in the courtyard when the sun’s out—if time allows—is a simple but wonderful start to the day. In the evenings, it might be a bath after putting our son to bed, or enjoying a tea while reading a book or watching a show/movie.

Is there a corner, room or detail that you’re especially proud of?

Our living room and fireplace. We painted the walls the same beautiful blue shade we have used in our Sydney store and layered in pieces we love—art, books, a beautiful rug. It feels rich and moody in the best way, and it’s such a treat to have a working fireplace. There is nothing like the crackle of a proper fire, it’s so cosy and we love gathering around it in Winter.

What does “home” mean to you right now?

A soft landing place. Somewhere that feels warm, calm and welcoming—a space to reconnect and recharge at the end of the day.

You have a beautiful PAMPA rug in your home—what role does it play in the space, and what drew you to it?

I was drawn to the bold stripes and how the red plays off our blue walls. It adds a layer of warmth and structure to the room. We initially hesitated to add a rug with a young child and a dog, but it’s made the space feel so much more inviting and warm.

How has your work with IN BED influenced the way you think about living spaces and what we surround ourselves with?

From the beginning, IN BED has been about celebrating the quiet, meaningful moments of life at home. That philosophy has deeply influenced how I approach our own space—choosing things slowly, embracing imperfection, and creating an environment that feels both beautiful and lived-in.
